CAVEMODE 17 was a great meeting with record attendance (over 100 in the room). Digital Hyper Studios discussed their work on a film called “The Ultimate Life”. They completed over 200 shots mostly involving replacing skies using rotoscoping techniques in Mocha Pro The team at Digital Hyper showed several shot breakdowns as well as a tracking demonstration in Mocha Pro. Several new folks to town introduced themselves during our “Need a job/have a job” segment. Byron Nash gave an introductory discussion and tutorial on capturing HDRI images for VFX work. We covered some basics of high dynamic range and 32bit floating point imagery as well as tools for capturing panoramic images. He ended the discussion by demonstrating the process of capturing a HDRI panorama using a chrome ball and post-processing in Photoshop.
