CAVEMODE 10 Recap
CAVEMODE 10 was held March 31st at CPCC in Uptown Charlotte. There were over 40 people in attendance at the meeting. The evening opened with the traditional showing of the CAVEMODE demo reel which had been updated and set to a tune by The Avett Brothers (locals too!). Nic Colley opened the meeting up with a great motion capture demonstration. CPCC has a full motion capture studio utilizing Motionbuilder. Nic was able to video conference in a live feed from the MoCap room where his associate was setup in the MoCap suit. Nic gave a good overview of the MoCap process as well as some common problems and how they have dealt with them.
The second presentation was shared by Byron Nash, Chris Watson, and Joe Murray. They discussed the full CG spot “Carolina Black” for the NC Education Lottery. Carolina Black was completed at Edit at Joe’s in December of 2010. The team comprised many of the talented folks in town including, Billy Demarco, Demetre Gionis, Shawn Lovette, Dieter Wagner, Joey Beason, Brooke Glaze, and Byron Nash. Les Umberger directed the spot. The presentation covered each of the areas of production and how the pipeline was worked out. They also spent time outlining problems and possible ways to circumvent them on a future project.
The final highlight of the night was the raffle. Our generous sponsors provide us with goodies to give away at the meetings and it always provides a fun environment to raffle them off. The big prize was the Adobe Production Suite. Peter Baker was the lucky recipient of that prize. We were also able to give away prizes from Digieffects, Autodesk, Digital Tutors, Stash, Focal Press, Artbeats, and Peachpit.
The meeting was a great success and we look forward to CAVEMODE 11 in the near future.
